my senior photos.

Today I'm gonna share my ideas for my senior pictures.
I want Tom Schmidt to do my senior photos, so all of the reference photos are from him.

I want a few themes going for my senior photos. First, I want a classic shoot. Me in just some regular clothes in a regualr outdoor scene; nothing flashy or extra. Something like this...

Then, I want something dressier. I don't like being dressed up very much, but I do enjoy putting on some pretty/fancy clothes for an hour or two for a shoot. I'm thinking some things like this...

Something where the background is almost as dominant.

There aren't any photos for this next idea because I don't think he's had a client that likes photography as much as I do before, but I want some pictures with me & Hunter (my camera). Like me taking pictures of the person taking my pictures. Hahaha. How corny; maybe not that idea. But some pictures with my camera.

I also want some sunny/yellow pictures. In a lot of my pictures I mix in a yellow/nutral tint that sometimes makes my photos look like they're bathed in light. Other times it gives the photos a vintage-y look. I want something like this...

This next one doesn't have any photos either. But I want to go to Cave Springs, which is local to Raytown, put a wooden chair in the river, then sit on it. I wanna be in something flowy-ish. & I want them to have that yellowish look that a lot of my pictures have & the ones above have. It'll be cute.

Last, I want a studio look. I want some pictures taken in the actual studio with the studio lights & wind machines, like this...

Also, I want some less dramatic studio shots. Like this...

So far, these are all the boring/cliche ideas I have, hahaha. I'm sure I'll come up with more. But what makes me the most excites is that I can just see in my mind the excitement these people had on their faces when they saw how well their images turned out.
I can't wait until I get to shoot mine & then have that look on my very own face. I love Tom Schmidt's work.

Family.

I thought a post dedicated to family was appropriate due to current events.
My father passed away on January 1st, 2011. Horrible way to start the new year, if you ask me.
He got very, very sick during the last two months of his life. The doctors explained his lung useage in terms of a tank of gas. They said, "Imagine his lungs as a tank of gas. Imagine you only have a quarter of a tank of gas left. Now imagine you have only a quarter of that quarter of a tank left. That's how much of his lungs he's able to use."
They also said that his heart was only working at 15%. It was only a matter of time.
He had to be transferred to Columbia, MO because he needed dialisis (which he ultimately refused), but we have no family in Columbia. He was alone at nights. So my cousin/aunt (Larissa & I call her our aunt sometimes because she's old enough to be our aunt) had the idea to go to Target & get him a stuffed animal to keep him company. We got him a blue little creature from Seasame Street. Dad named him Fart. He never let Fart go.
He was gone within an hour of the doctor's putting him on the morphine for the pain. My mom thought he was just waiting for us to get into Columbia & for the doctors to put him out of pain. I agree.

Here are some photos (new & old) of my family.

Mt little sister Larissa.

My mom at where we're going to bury my father's ashes.

Danielle & her daughter Libby.

My mom & me.

Brent playing with his cutest (& only) neice, Libby.

Diana & her son Timmy.

Obviously these photos were taken at different points in time & at different levels of skill. Can you tell which are the newer ones?

Zemotion

Zhang Jingna (Zemotion) is a role model & hero of mine. My passion for photography and the drive to shoot just gets stronger with every work she comes out with.
There almost aren't any words to explain why Zhang Jingna's work is so beautiful & hard to look away from.
When I saw that there was a chance that I could win printed artwork from her, my stomach flipped. For the years that I've been faithfully following her work, I've always longed to save up enough money to buy one of my favorite prints. Sadly, that money never got saved. So now that this opportunity is here, when I'm at my brokest, it's so exciting.
Her rise to such fame at such a young age has given me hope for teenagers with dreams of at least a little recognition for my photography to actually get that recognition. It pushes me to be better & to put my work out there more, hoping that my work can do to someone else what Zhang Jingna's work does to me: awes me.
Her travel photos on her blog get me even more pumped to travel around the world, just me & my camera. She can make mundane things seem like the most beautiful things in the world, & I think that's what makes a good photographer a great photographer. She finds beauty in everything, & everyone agrees.
& to me, there is nothing more beautiful than a coffee table book or a post card of her work that I can actually touch.
I hope all of you get as inspired by her work as I do.

Not only does she have extraordinary talent in seeing beauty through a camera lens, but she is also very talented in other visual arts, as well. Autumn Snow is a work of art that Zhang Jingna created as far as the lineart and some of the digital effects go. To me, it's just as beautiful as her photographs.

Her work will continue to inspire me & thousands of art-lovers around the world for years & years & years.
Her fame is very well deserved.

the vaters family

i took family holiday photos of the vaters family over the weekend.
they were so fun to be around; there was never a moment when there wasn't a smile on someone's face.

while we were at crown center we saw lots of men in military uniform with their girlfriends, fiances, wives, sisters, etc. in what looked like a military wedding.
i wish i could have photographed it.
